Set of 8 Cactus sterling silver salt & pepper shakers. Made by Georg Jensen in Copenhagen. Each: Ovoid body on raised round foot. Four shakers have pierced cover with bead finial. The other four have single central spout. The cactus motif is tucked away on the body underside. Functional form and discreet ornament. Italian grand tour cast silver sculpture, ca 1910. Roman gladiators clash with swords drawn. The apparent victor, helmeted and armored, stands with sandaled foot on his victim’s thigh. The fallen man’s retaliatory thrust is blocked by a shield-bearing arm. A dramatic fight to the death that is perfectly posed to show off impressive male musculature. The group is mounted to a rectangular base on corner paw supports. Marked. Very good condition with deep patina.

Hinged c-scroll handle. Pierced and engraved ornament, including flowers, leaves, and garlands. Reeding. Armorial frames on front and back engraved with interlaced script monogram. Art Nouveau Craftsman glazed jug decanter with engraved silver overlay. Made by Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati in 1896. Wide ovoid body with short neck and ring handle in silver collar. Shaped stopper with cork plug. Corn cob with peeled-back husk on shaded brown ground. Overlay scrollwork and grape-bunches spilling out of overturned barrel. A rarified vessel for passing round grandpa's home-stilled bourbon.
