The goblet is a direct descent of the Standing Cup, which was a symbol of royalty. It was a critical piece found on banquet tables of the 16th century. Back in the day, standing cups were usually 12 to 20 inches tall. Sterling silver goblets are as diverse as flatware. Giving a set as a wedding gift or to celebrate a commemorative event is a beautiful idea. Plus, they have lasting value.
