Edwardian sterling silver and enamel inkwell. Made by Grinsell & Sons in London in 1906. Dome base with reeded foot and rim and hinged cover. On cover top is inset enamel plaque: a cat sits on its haunches, front legs stiffened, ears erect, and gaze intense. Wonderful details include the shaded striping and fluffy chest fur. Sterling silver blades and shanks engraved with flowers. Handles are mother of pearl with carved flutes and ball terminal. In original stained wood case with silk lining and fitted velvet.
Fully marked. Case has maker’s label. Wonderful condition with rich patina and only minor age-related wear. One knife missing ball terminal.
