Pair of European shagreen and silver candlesticks, ca 1880. Each: Column on raised square base covered with green-tinted shagreen. Silver Corinthian capital with square beaded socket. Column encircled with winding scaly snake. On base silver mounts including paterae and scrolls as well as dolphins. Unmarked. Condition: Some shrinkage, splits, and discoloration. Uneven sunning with one candlestick noticeably more faded.

Tapering and inset sides engraved with stylized ornament, including swags and scrolls, centered on oval frame (vacant) bordered by beading and dentil interspersed with trefoils.
