Aesthetic sterling silver tongs. Made by Wood & Hughes in New York. U-form terminating in shallow oval bowl and 3-tine shank. Ornamental piercing. Stylized ornament comprising flower on stippled multifoil heightened with pointille. Engraved 3-letter monogram. An exciting serving piece from the 1870s-80s in a pattern sometimes called Lotus. Hallmarked. Very good condition.

Edwardian sterling silver porringer. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1911. Traditional form including open tree handle sprouting acorn shoots. Bowl sides have acid-etched frieze with alternating oak leaves and acorn-clutching squirrels. Sweet with an implicit moral message about thrift and planning. Hallmark includes pattern no. 18080D (first produced in 1911) and director’s letter m (1907-47). Very good condition.

Sides have Classical leaf-and-dart band. Cover has pastoral scene with ladies and gentlemen in 17th-century dress strolling in bower. Fully marked with German maker and English import marks. Seven double-scroll partitions with fleurs de lys terminals and central open wreath finial mounted to rectilinear frame with chamfered corners and shaded strapwork ornament, and plain central stretcher on 4 leafy-scroll supports.
