Victorian sterling silver coffeepot. Made by John Mitchell in Glasgow in 1862. Straight sides with spread base, capped scroll bracket handle, and hinged cover with squirrel finial. Scroll pattern in oval frames on shaded ground. An exciting period design with midcentury density moving towards abstraction. Armorial with Latin motto Cura et Industria. Perfect for the next luncheon. Hallmarked. Very good condition.

Helmet body, hinged and stepped dome cover with flower basket finial, shallow oval dome foot, scrolled and tapering spout, and bracket handle in stained wood. A Classical form softened with pretty floral garlands. The pattern (no. 13889) was first produced in 1898.
