Edwardian sterling silver and enamel inkwell. Made by Grinsell & Sons in London in 1906. Dome base with reeded foot and rim and hinged cover. On cover top is inset enamel plaque: a cat sits on its haunches, front legs stiffened, ears erect, and gaze intense. Wonderful details include the shaded striping and fluffy chest fur. Oak leaves (some with acorns) applied to top and bottom. Interior lightly gilt. A beautiful design – rich in metaphorical possibilities.

Unusual sterling silver shaker. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca. 1887. Cylindrical with spread foot and bun cover. Dense repousse with flowers and ferns. Acanthus leaf border to foot. Reeded rim. Cover has scrolled piercing bordered by repousse flowers and foliage. Tactile. The pattern (no. 9329) was first produced in 1887. Hallmarked. Excellent condition with rich patina and snugly fitting cover.
