Set of 4 gilt and enameled sterling silver place card holders. Made by David Andersen in Norway, ca 1920. Each: Clip in form of Viking boat with scrolled posts and warrior shield rim. Stealthy movement suggested by billowing sails and lapping water. Sails have enameled strips, two with red and white stripes and two with blue and white stripes. Flat oval base. Fully marked including maker’s stamp. Very good condition.

Large scrolled frame (vacant) surrounded by rural idyll with house and barn set in bosky landscape. In foreground a hunter takes aim at a fox. No vermin allowed in paradise. New York retailer’s stamp (Ball, Black & Co.) and star and eagle associated with Hartford production. Very good condition with nice patina.

Each: A rifle is propped against a shilling coin dated 1899, the year war broke out in South Africa between the British and Dutch colonial settlements. The rifle is the famous Lee-Metford, which was by then a tad old fashioned, but still considered reliable by British as well as Dutch troops, who made use of captured specimens. Curved and overhanging mouth with lip spout and cylindrical bowl; round and stepped foot and c-scroll handle. Acid-etched ornament: Meandering ivy on mouth and handle and half-fluting on bowl. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 16867B (first produced in 1907), director’s letter m, and volume (5 1/2 pts). Very good condition.
