Rare sterling silver desk box. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1865. Rectangular with straight sides and curved corners. Flat cover with applied cable border. Corner supports and finial in form of cast dolphin figures. A restrained design enlivened with a traditional Renaissance motif. A fine early piece by this historic maker. Hallmark includes pattern no. 1733 (first produced before 1870) and director’s letter m (ca 1854-70). Fine condition and patina.
