Fabulous Japonesque sterling silver and mixed metal tea caddy. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1884. Dome body with short neck. Flat cover with curved sides. Mixed metal bird (crane), insects (spider and butterfly), and plants (cattails and chrysanthemums) in granulated soil applied to honeycomb ground. Rare and beautiful hand-hammered sterling silver bowl with mixed metal. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1880. Four curved sides with honeycomb hand hammering. Interior has applied mixed metal ornament: butterfly, birds, flower planted in granulated soil, and blossoming prunus branch that climbs over the rim and clings to the exterior. Rim exterior reeded. Old fashioned sterling silver sleigh. A fun fantasy vehicle under the uncertain control of a pixie coachman with a jester holding tight to the prow.
