Engraved bamboo, cranes, blossoming prunus branch, and kimono-clad figure holding fan and fish. Tooled ornamental bands at top and bottom. Butler finish. A wonderful period piece that embodies modish exoticism. Union Square hallmark (1870-1875) includes pattern no. 2978. Fine patina and definition.

Alternating stripes and lattice, and oval frames acid-etched with flower baskets. Fish scale bottom, faceted knop, and lobed neck. Mouth rim has cut geometric ornament and acid-etched garland. Vase mounted to stepped silver foot. Base hallmarked “Hawkes sterling 155 PWTS.” Excellent condition.
