Set of 6 Midcentury Modern sterling silver nut dishes. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Each: Abstract and asymmetrical apple with scrolled stem and leaves. Rests on ball support. Fully marked. Five have pattern no. 22886 (first produced in 1940). Two have director’s letter m (1907-47), 2 have director’s letter M (1947-56), and 1 has director’s letter L (1956-ca 1965). Very good condition.

A traditional form enlivened by the figure of an octopus squatting in the center, its curled and tangled legs draped over the bowls. Gently curved bowl and inset undulating rim with wide lip spout and integral scroll handle with tendril mounts that wraparound mouth rim. Handle has lily pad “cap” with crouching figure of frog. Chrysanthemum sterling silver serving bowl. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Oval well with tapering sides and scalloped rim with applied leaf-and-flower head border in a controlled arrangement. A nice early piece in the historic Japonesque pattern that was first produced in 1880. Fully marked including maker's stamp, pattern no. 10951 (first produced in 1891), and director’s letter M (1873-91). Excellent condition.

Eighteen silver gilt dinner plates. Each: Round well and tapering shoulder with stippled leafing branches. Reeded and scrolled rim with daisies between volute terminals. A sumptuous set in a fresh and pretty pattern. A memorable dinner party guaranteed. Portuguese (1938-84) marks including 916 standard stamp, and Lisbon assay stamp and retailer’s stamp “Mergulhão” for Carlos Alberto Joalheiro, who was active beginning in 1960s. Very good condition. German 800 silver tea strainer, ca 1910. Deep and pierced bowl and wide shoulder with chased and repousse scenes of dancing, toping, and music making in scrolled frames. Handle in form of fiddler seated on barrel. A sweet and sentimental ode to country life. Marks include maker’s stamp for Friedrich Reusswig, who was active in Hanau from 1903 to 1926. Very good condition with deep patina.
