Edwardian Art Nouveau sterling silver basket. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1914. Round solid bowl with tapering c-scroll swing handle and stepped foot. Rim molded with shallow scalloping. Sides interior have acid-etched pattern with scroll-inset diaper and lunettes in linear frames. Well plain. Fully marked including pattern no. 18794D (first produced in 1914) and director’s letter m. Very good condition.

Modern 950 silver box inset with ancient Roman coins. Made by Bulgari in Italy in 1972. Straight sides, each with large gilt diaper inset with a follis (a type of bronze coin) from the reign of Emperor Maxentius, one of the last pagan emperors, who ruled from 306-312 AD. Striking 1970s design evocative of decline and decadence. Fully marked including post-1967 Italian marks, year, and phrase “Impero Romano / Massenzio / 306 – 312 / Follis”. Excellent condition.
