An old-fashioned gent in top hat takes a fence in pursuit of a fox. Eager hounds close the gap. Sterling silver collar and domed cover with built-in strainer and snug-fitting cap. Fully marked. Low-relief ornament on stippled ground. Bowl has wraparound frieze with garlands, leafing volute scrolls, and leaf-ornamented columns between tête à tête gryphons. On foot rim is a garland held up dancing putti. Bowl interior gilt.

Upright S-spout with ram’s head mouth, and low relief leaves and gadroons. Leaf-and-dart borders. Cover has bud finial on scroll and flower mount. Shaped and curvilinear double-sided head with chased leaves and flowers and armorial cartouches; fretwork bit. Engraved presentation. On front cartouche: "Presented / To / Mr. P. Howarth / On Opening / Of Canteen". On reverse: “At / Foundry Mills / Ltd. / Radcliffe / Feb. 22, 1951”.
