A most unusual very large letter opener/page turner made in London 1886 by Ebenezer Newman. The top is in the form of a large Parrot head with glass eyes. The head is well worked with figural feathers all engraved. The blade is wood with a very dark finish. Full set of Victorian sterling silver hallmarks on the head. Original monogram A.L.E. on slightly gilded mount above the wood blade. You can feel the sterling silver head is of thick gauge silver and is heavy to the feel. Silver head is in very good condition. Wood blade is also in good condition, does show normal wear to the wood and finish. Length 14 1/4 inches.
