Art Nouveau Craftsman glazed ewer with engraved silver overlay. Made by Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati in 1892. Ovoid with trefoil shaped mouth and looping handle in silver collar. Flowering branch with dense orange flowers on shaded brown ground. Overlay in form of exuberant scrollwork.

The painter was Sallie Toohey (1872-1941), a Cincinnati native who worked at Rookwood for more than 40 years, beginning when she was in her teens. Her work was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, and is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Fully marked including dated Rookwood stamp, artist’s stamp, and shape no. 381. Silver numbered R430. Very good condition.
