Art Nouveau Craftsman glazed jug decanter with engraved silver overlay. Made by Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati in 1896. Wide ovoid body with short neck and ring handle in silver collar. Shaped stopper with cork plug. Corn cob with peeled-back husk on shaded brown ground. Overlay scrollwork and grape-bunches spilling out of overturned barrel. A rarified vessel for passing round grandpa's home-stilled bourbon.

The painter was Josephine Ella Zettel (1874–1954), a Cincinnati native who worked at Rookwood from 1892 to 1904. Her work is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Morse Museum in Florida. Fully marked including dated Rookwood stamp, artist’s stamp, and shape no. 675. Silver marks include Gorham maker’s stamp and no. R2550. Very good condition.
