French gilt 950 silver casket, ca 1900. Bombe with chased scrolls and flowers on granulated and diaper ground. On front, asymmetrical cartouche (vacant). Four scrolled corner supports. Cover hinged and raised and inset with enamel plaque depicting a kneeling woman gazing into a hand mirror. A poignant adaptation of the Renaissance Annunciation theme with the dove as messenger. In this case, it is the annunciation of her beauty and the messenger is her mirror. Marked. Very good condition with nice toning.
