George III sterling silver coffee and tea set. Made by Henry Chawner & John Eames in London, 1796-7. This set comprises coffeepot, teapot, creamer, and sugar.

Ovoid bodies with chased and engraved imbricated scallop shell girdles between pointille borders, and engraved double-sided wreathed armorials (on front a coat of arms; on back an animal bust). Coffeepot has tapering body on raised foot with leaf border between same, hinged and double-domed cover with ball finial, s-scroll spout, and high-looping stained-wood handle with imbricated leaf mount. Teapot has straight sides, capped and high-looping wood handle, s-scroll spout, and hinged and domed cover with wood finial. Creamer has straight sides, helmet mouth, and reeded rim and high-looping handle. Sugar has gently tapering sides, reeded rim, and fixed and reeded c-scroll handle with leaf-mounts.

Fashionable Neoclassicism in full working order. Ready for another couple centuries of entertaining. Fully marked. Date letters 1796 (sugar) and 1797 (coffeepot, teapot, and creamer). Very good condition with nice patina and rubbing and handling wear to wood.
