Early sterling silver covered serving dish on stand. Made by John C. Moore for Tiffany & Co. at 550 Broadway, New York, ca late 1850s. Curved bowl with flat rim set in tripod frame with paw supports and central ring stretcher supporting heating element. Cover gently domed with cast conch finial and engraved armorial (Latin motto translates as “Fortune, companion of virtue”). Elegant form unified by ornamental borders with trefoil-inset circles on lined ground. Stand supports further enlivened with shaped arrows applied to stippled ground – a hint of the advanced.

Hallmark (1854-70) includes maker’s and retailer’s stamps and pre-1860 pattern number 999. Very good condition.

Overall dimensions: H 8 1/2 x D 10 in. Total weight: 53 troy ounces. #BQ829
