George V sterling silver tray. Made by Mappin & Webb in London in 1920. Round well with engraved wreath (center vacant). Applied and pierced rim with dense Renaissance ornament: Medallions inset with Classical heads, leopards leaping through beaded scrolls, and vases. Three paw supports with leafing-scroll mounts. Fully marked. Excellent condition with deep patina.

Cast animal heads: Bowl ends have shaggy, horned oxen, and cover finial is a fierce and gaping boar. Elegant Classicism and red meat hardiness. Mark (1854-70) includes maker’s and retailer’s stamps, pre-1860 pattern no. 472, and phrase “English Sterling”. Excellent condition.
