Victorian sterling silver epergne candelabrum. Made by Barnard & Sons in London in 1849.

Shaped shaft with flange and stepped triangular base terminating in 3 scrolled supports. Raised and large central glass basket in support surrounded on 3 leaf-capped and entwined scroll branches, each terminating in bellied leaf-capped socket. Sockets support small glass baskets. Dense pierced and scrolled leaf ornament. Midcentury ornateness that shimmers by candlelight.

Capped s-scroll handle in stained wood. Molded base rim. Full marked including maker’s (Schroth) stamp and phrase “Hand Made”. Schroth was a New Jersey maker and retailer established in 1965. Acid-etched nursery rhyme scenes peopled with stubby-legged, button-eyed tykes. On front pre-fall Jack and Jill share the labor of carrying the pail of water.
