Sterling Holloware

Set of 4 gilt and enameled sterling silver place card holders. Made by David Andersen in Norway, ca 1920. Each: Clip in form of Viking boat with scrolled posts and warrior shield rim. Stealthy movement suggested by billowing sails and lapping water. Sails have enameled strips, two with red and white stripes and two with blue and white stripes. Flat oval base. Fully marked including maker’s stamp. Very good condition.

Classical coin silver christening mug, ca 1850. Baluster bowl with high-looping leaf-capped s-scroll handle and round stepped foot. Large scrolled frame (vacant) surrounded by rural idyll with house and barn set in bosky landscape. In foreground a hunter takes aim at a fox. No vermin allowed in paradise. New York retailer’s stamp (Ball, Black & Co.) and star and eagle associated with Hartford production. Very good condition with nice patina.

Pair of Edwardian Classical sterling silver candlesticks. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1914. Each: Ovoid socket with detachable bobeche on knopped baluster shaft; domed foot. Fancy floral garlands, gadroons, leaves, and scrolls. Scrolled rims. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, no. A602, and date symbol. Very good condition.

Edwardian glass sugar caster with sterling silver cover. Made by the Merrill Shops in New York, ca 1910. Bowl has upward tapering sides with cut ferns and stars, and leaf mouth rim. Cover domed and pierced. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 2103. Very good condition.

Set of 4 European gilt 935 silver and glass figural Buddha place card holders, ca 1925. Each: Contemplative and cross-legged figure of the Zen-man himself in molded glass. For a Siddhartha serene dinner party. Colors are green, blue, orange, and clear. Chamfered rectangular base and u-form back support. In leather-bound case with fitted velvet and silk lining. Marked. Very good condition.

Set of 4 Victorian sterling silver place card holders. Made by Saunders and Shepherd in Chester in 1899. Each: A rifle is propped against a shilling coin dated 1899, the year war broke out in South Africa between the British and Dutch colonial settlements. The rifle is the famous Lee-Metford, which was by then a tad old fashioned, but still considered reliable by British as well as Dutch troops, who made use of captured specimens. Belle Epoque Rococo 950 silver jardiniere centerpiece, ca 1900. Bombe oval bowl with wide and tapering rim. Embossed twisted fluting and applied round frames (vacant) with scallop shell crown supported by winged cherubs. Elaborate end handles, each with cast figure of lunging cherub, holding drapery in one hand and flowers in the other, between leaf-wrapped double-scrolls. Four leaf-mounted scroll supports. Edwardian Modern Classical sterling silver water pitcher. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1907. Bombe form. Curved and overhanging mouth with lip spout and cylindrical bowl; round and stepped foot and c-scroll handle. Acid-etched ornament: Meandering ivy on mouth and handle and half-fluting on bowl. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 16867B (first produced in 1907), director’s letter m, and volume (5 1/2 pts). Very good condition.

Victorian sterling silver baby cup. Made by George W. Shiebler & Co. in New York, ca 1890. Curved bowl with allover frond and flower repousse on stippled ground. Reeded scroll bracket handle wrapped with applied band decorated with stylized flower head. Gilt-washed interior. Fully marked including maker’s and retailer’s (JE Caldwell) stamps and no. 1306. Very good condition with deep patina.
