George III sterling silver sugar basket. Made by Hester Bateman in London in 1779. Ovoid bowl with wavy mouth rim and c-scroll swing handle; short support and raised foot. Pierced wavy and linear ornament with rondel-inset amphoras as well as chased guilloche and egg-and-dart bands. Beading. Detachable cobalt glass liner. Fully marked. Very good condition.
