George VI sterling silver desk box. Made by Mappin & Webb in Birmingham in 1951. Curved underside and hinged cover with flat ends (that is, truncated tube). Cover has fine horizontal lines and central vertical strip with square pattern and stepped tab. Rests on 4 horizontal oval supports. Box interior cedar-lined and partitioned. Cover interior lightly gilt. Box underside lined with black leather. Hallmarked. Good condition with wear to leather.
