An antique American sterling silver and other metals cylinder shaped vase by Gorham Mfg. Corp. This unusual vase is composed of a simple cylinder with a pinched neck and then worked around the body. A portion of the body is decorated with a rough matte finish with large flecks of copper. It is bordered on one side with a diagonal braid of sterling and copper, which also circles the vase like a piece of rope. Above this braided rope is an applied ornate sterling silver scroll border. The other side of the pitted matte design is bordered by an ornate gold lattice and scroll strip that runs from top to bottom. It is truly a unique late Victorian design. Made by Gorham Mfg. Corp., Providence, Rhode Island. Dated 1878. Fully hallmarked including the Gorham date stamp "L" which indicates the exact year the vase was made. Fabulous patina, excellent patina. 5.5 troy ounces, height 5 3/4", diameter 2".   Price: $9,500   Stock #AV968
