| This regal pair of English Victorian Sterling Silver Gilt Wine Coasters was made by the venerable London silversmith, Richard Sibley, in 1839. Each is fully marked around the rim of the foot, with the maker’s mark, lion passant sterling mark, leopard’s head for London, monarch’s mark of Queen Victoria, and the date letter “D” for 1839. The coasters are made of very heavy gauge silver and are inset with wood bases. The coasters are decorated with an ovolo and trefoil pierced gallery, bordered by a cast and chased scroll form rim and base, the whole raised on three scroll form cast feet of later date by Garrard.
