| This is a wonderful antique silver stirrup cup with an equine design made in German in the late nineteenth century and imported to England. This bell shaped cup, traditionally used to toast before a hunt, has a wonderfully decorated body with chased and repousséd decoration of fruit and flowers in bunches that are joined with ribbon swags against a mottled background all in a strap-work like frame. The cup rises to a figural bust of a horse that is dynamically modeled with upward pointed nose and open mouth with a wavy mane. All of the decoration is beautifully detailed and is warm yet crisp. This stirrup cup is in excellent condition with its original gold wash interior and measures approx. 6 1/2" high, and is a very fine example of German hunting silver. It is marked on the rim with German hallmarks and full English hallmarks indicating that this piece was imported for sale in London in 1895. This antique German stirrup cup is a very handsome example of traditional hunting silver that would make a wonderful addition to any collection and a very distinctive gift for a sportsman!
