| This is an absolutely charming sterling silver and silver gilt shell dish by the renowned silversmiths at Gorham in a whimsical Victorian design. This large shell-shaped dish stands on two small shell feet in the front and a wirework, spiral ball in the back and has a dynamic scallop, fluted silver-gilt interior that is topped with a wonderful wirework scroll handle that splits to hold both sides of the dish with spiral and has a central double spiral with a leaf scent. A figural mouse has been cast in three-dimensional form and perched at the top of the dish to tease and delight. This bowl is in excellent condition with a rich original patina and measures approx. 4 ¼” high, 5” long and approx. 4 5/8” in wide. It is marked under the base with the marker’s mark of the Gorham Manufacturing Co., the word Sterling, pattern number 10, and the date symbol for 1872.
