This is an exceptional sterling silver urn by the premier American Silversmiths at the Gorham Manufacturing Company in a timeless neoclassical design. This urn has an oval base trimmed with leafy garland and a pierced design. The elegantly shaped and flared body is decorated with four fluted columns topped with floral capitals with garlands swags between each one. A band of anthemia decoration and simple banding demarcate the rim which gently sweeps upward to form a high collar trimmed with a bound reed border. The high domed lid adds further height to the design and is decorated with leaves and a beaded ball finial with leafy collar. There are two elaborate yet discreet side handles with leafy designs and a spigot with bellflower and leafy embellishment with a carve ivory knob. The urn is supported on a stand with four paw and leaf bracket feet with additional bellflower details and holds circular burner with a sliding ivory capped handle. Each piece is in excellent condition and has been superbly crafted from heavy gauge silver with crisp decoration. The base of the urn and the stand are each marked with the maker's mark of Gorham, the word Sterling, and the urn is marked with the letters P V L, and the base is marked with the letter P and the words Pat Applied For. The urn stands approx. 17 1/2" high, approx. 10" wide, and weighs approx. 107 troy ounces. This beautiful and superbly crafted urn is a rare find; its elegant proportions and timeless design make this antique silver urn a true collectible.   Price: $8,500.00   Stock #BD755
