| This is a lovely set of four sterling silver standing salts by the London silversmith Robert Garrarrd I in the neoclassical style of the Georgian period. Each circular salt dish stands on three substantial paw feet with lion’s head joints that have been cast with exceptional detail and sculptural quality. The round bodies are left undecorated except for the engraved crest and motto which has become obscured and a delicate spiral gadrooned border that encircles the rim. Each salt is in very good condition with only typical wear for their age including slightly impacted feet, and small losses to the gold wash interiors. Each salt measures approx. 2 1/4” high and 3 1/2” in diameter, and each is fully hallmarked under the base including the maker’s mark of Robert Garrard I, whose son was later appointed silversmiths to the King of England. This handsome set of antique silver salt dishes is a fine example of English silver design in its most traditional and timeless form. These salts would make a fine addition to any silver collection.
