| This is a lovely sterling silver mustard pot made by the well-known London silversmiths Ann and Peter Bateman in the neoclassical style. This oval mustard pot has an openwork body comprised of two bands of circles each with a central flower design that has been further articulated with delicate engraving. The framework around has also been engraved with garland and flower decoration, which produces an elaborate setting for the fitted glass insert. The high domed hinged lid has also been engraved with lovely dotted and scalloped decoration as well as small flowers around the rim, and with a crest on the top of the dome. The shell-shaped openwork thumb piece adds additional interest and stands tall atop the delicate C-scroll handle with very lovely curves. This mustard pot is in excellent condition with only typical wear for its age. It measures approx. 3” high, and approx. 4” long over the handle. It is fully hallmarked on the base including the maker’s mark of Ann and Peter Bateman. This charming antique silver mustard pot is a fine example of Georgian silver in the finest tradition of English craftsmanship. This is a very sweet and collectible piece of 18th century silver.
