| This is a beautiful sterling silver water pitcher by the premier American silversmiths at Gorham in a lovely Rococo Revival design. With a spreading shaped, circular base this pitcher has a V-formed body with a high arched inverted helmet-shaped spout. The body is profusely decorated, the bottom with a fluting of deeply chased elongated scrolls that curl at the base, which are accented by smaller scrolls and various leaves and flowers in a dynamic arrangement that frame cartouches on each side of the body. The spout is decorated with a sculptural leaf and flower border. This pitcher has an elaborate C-scroll handle also dynamically rendered with scrolls and flower accents. The pitcher is in excellent condition, and has been monogrammed on one cartouche with the initials LS. It measures approx. 10 1/2” high, the base measures approx. 5 1/2” across, and it weighs approx. 37.5 troy ounces. It is marked under the base the maker’s mark of Gorham Manufacturing Co., the word Sterling, pattern number A580, 4 PINT, and the date symbol for 1899.
