| This is a fine quality heavy gauge 950 sterling silver square centerpiece in the neo-Classical style, dramatically highlighted by a removable cut crystal insert in a beautiful shade of deep cobalt blue. It has been expertly made to the very highest standards by the skilled silversmiths at the highly renowned Aucoc of Paris and its stylish elegance reflects the expertise of Aucoc’s designers and silversmiths. The square shape is unusual for a centerpiece and its distinctive silhouette has been effectively accentuated by the decorative motifs which highlight each of the four corners. These support the dainty raised feet and then rise upwards taking the form of columns which have been topped with massed feather-like forms, all exquisitely made and beautifully detailed. Standing feathers encircle the bases of all the columns, each of which has been artfully highlighted by a pair of crossed silver ribbon motifs. This ribbon motif has been effectively repeated on each side of the upper groups of feathers, flowing gracefully in a neatly rippling bow along the upper rim and subtly enhancing the lovely and delicate craftsmanship used in the feathers’ execution. A row of miniature beadwork completes the design of the upper rim. The lower border consists of a row of laurel leaves and between these two rows a wide band of prettily curving pierced work allows the beauty of the gorgeous deep cobalt glass to show through, providing a dramatic contrast against the lovely soft patina of the silver. A central cartouche on both the back and the front has been engraved with an elaborate and intricately entwined decorative monogram. The glass insert is vibrantly hued and has been made from a strong and heavy duty piece of crystal which has been skillfully and deeply cut on the base into a lovely star shape. The overall affect is one of sophistication and understated elegance highlighted by craftsmanship of the very highest order. The lower rim has been stamped with the words A. Aucoc together with a French hallmark and both the silver and the crystal are in excellent condition throughout. This truly exceptional piece measures approx. 12 ¼” x approx. 9 ¼” x approx. 5 ¾” tall to the top of the “feathers” at the corners.
