AMERICAN SILVER COMPOTES ARTS & CRAFTS PETERSEN C.1920

This is a beautiful and unusual pair of sterling silver compotes handmade by Canadian silversmith Carl Poul Petersen in the Arts and Crafts tradition. Petersen received his training from the renowned Danish silversmith Georg Jensen. These lovely compotes or standing dishes stand on a circular base and have a quartered openwork stem formed as leaves that supports a large lobed leaf dish with a dramatic sweeping C-shaped handle that is formed as a stem floral bud with seedpods. The bud and pod motif is repeated around the base with four additional forms. This is a unique and elegant design in the tradition of modern Danish silver, and it was expertly crafted by hand by Petersen, a highly regarded craftsman. Each compote is in excellent condition and has been marked under the base with Petersen’s maker’s mark, and the words Sterling and Handmade. Each compote measures approx. 8 1/2" high, and 8” long, and together weigh approx. 20 troy ounces. These lovely Arts and Crafts compotes are a striking example of quality craftsmanship and modern design, and would make an elegant statement on any table. A true collector’s item!   Price: $6,500.00   Stock #BD477
