This is a unique American sterling silver presentation centerpiece bowl from the New York Yacht Club with superb decoration in the style of the Rococco Revival and a truly magnificent inscription in the Art Nouveau style. It has been superbly made by the highly regarded silversmiths at Black, Starr & Frost and has an aesthetically pleasing ovoid silhouette that has been beautifully enhanced by decoration of the very finest quality. It rests upon a low base with four elegant feet defined by scrolling shell motifs and separated by pretty scrollwork punctuated with miniature beadwork and rose forms. This lovely craftsmanship has been echoed by the decoration surrounding the upper rim which consists of a wide border of flowing scrolled forms and leafy organic motifs, all beautifully made and crisply and nicely-detailed. The entire front has been dramatically engraved with an inscription in large and elaborately decorative flowing script in the Art Nouveau style which is quite remarkable to behold. It reads “Trophy for Single Masted Vessels Season 1896 Presented by Commodore Edward Brown”, Commodore Brown having been a prominent member of the New York Yacht Club at the turn of the last century. This truly exceptional example of engraving at its very best has become a design element in its own right and has been executed to the very highest standards, conveying a sense of the movement of the waves and subtly accentuating the gentle undulations of the bowl’s distinctive shape. This magnificent one-of-a-kind bowl is in perfect, pristine condition with a lovely soft patina and clearly-defined details on all the decorative elements. It has been stamped on the base with a pattern number, the words Sterling, Black Starr & Frost and the eagle symbol used as an identifying mark by that company. This is a museum quality bowl, beautifully made by a highly regarded New York silversmith and superbly and distinctively engraved in a creative and highly original manner. It would appeal to any connoisseur of fine quality sterling silver and would be of particular interest to a sailing enthusiast. It measures approx. 21” x approx. 17” and stands approx. 4” tall. It weighs a substantial 115 troy ounces. Stock #: BC822 Price code: TCAS $22,500   Price: $22,500   Stock #BC822
