ANTIQUE WATER PITCHER WITH SILVER OVERLAY CIRCA 1910

This is a large clear crystal water pitcher which has been lavishly decorated all over with heavy gauge sterling silver overlay in the Art Nouveau style. The crystal has been divided into eight flat panels, all of which have been beautifully enhanced by the application of superb quality silver overlay decoration which flows elegantly and prettily all over the surface of the pitcher. The design consists primarily of very large iris flowers which encircle the center of the pitcher and float above a mixture of swirling tendrils, leaves and buds. These are all nicely detailed with deep and finely made decorative touches. Above the iris flowers, the pitcher’s upper portion has been defined by a series of Gothic style arches which artistically entwine into an attractive lattice-like pattern. The upper rim has been outlined with a heavy border of plain silver which has been notched into a pair of V-shapes on both sides of the pitcher, an unusual and distinctive design element. The handle echoes the shape and form of the upper rim with heavy gauge silver culminating in a V-shape at the top. The condition is very good and the silver overlay has been skillfully applied and still retains the crisp defining details of its design throughout. There are no visible distinguishing marks anywhere, but this is no cause for concern as many pieces of silver overlay were left unmarked, even fine quality pieces like this one. This is a very handsome pitcher which would make a strong design statement in any setting. It measures approx. 10” wide from the handle to the poring lip, is approx. 4 ½” in diameter at the base and stands approx. 10” high at its tallest point at the top of the pouring lip.   Price: $3,250.00   Stock #BA841
