| This is a very handsome sterling silver monteith bowl by the London firm of Slater, Slater and Holland in a Rococo Revival design. This fantastic circular monteith stands on a circular footring with repousséd decoration of abstracted scrolls. The deep bowl has a wonderful shaped rim framed with a scroll border forming high arches to support the stems of cooling wine glasses. The body of the bowl is decorated with exuberant leaves and scrolls, partial spiral gadrooning around the bottom, and a vacant cartouche centered on each side. This piece is excellent condition and is solidly constructed, weighing approx. 36 troy ounces. It measures approx. 6 1/4” high, and its opening measures approx. 10” in diameter, and together the set weighs approx. 190 troy ounces. It is fully hallmarked on the body below the rim with the maker’s mark of Slater, Slater & Holland, and has the retailer’s mark of H. Lewis & Co., 172 New Bond Street W.
