STERLING MIXED METAL GLASS DECANTER WHITING CIRCA 1890

This is a lovely and unusual sterling silver and mixed metal mounted glass decanter with a beautiful etched glass body by the Whiting Manufacturing Company. The spherical glass body is decorated on all sides with free-form etched design of leafy grass and wildflowers accented by butterflies in a naturalistic Art Nouveau or Japonesque style. The decanter has a small loop handle and cylindrical neck with a sterling silver collar and sterling silver and copper stopper. Both the collar and stopper have a beautiful hand hammered finish also in the Japanese style The top of the stopper is inset with a jagged leaf-like design in copper against the hand hammered silver surrounding it. This decanter is in excellent condition with beautifully rendered decoration. It is marked on the collar with the maker’s mark of Whiting and the word sterling, and it measures approx. 9” high. This beautiful decanter is a harmonious marriage of silver and glass in the highly collectible style of the Aesthetic Movement, and combines the design motifs of the late nineteenth century with fine craftsmanship   Price: $1,850   Stock #AU246
