| This is a gorgeous sterling silver ladle by the highly regarded Philadelphia silversmiths at J.E. Caldwell & Co. in a beautiful Art Nouveau design. This lovely design features a circular, scallop-shell bowl with a long, curvaceous handle. The handle is covered with naturalistic, leafy tendrils that fall from a spiral motif at the terminal that bursts open with flowers and abstract petals. This dynamic design is evocative of seaweed or tropical plants and is a fine example of the exoticism of the late nineteenth century. This ladle is in excellent condition with crisp, finely executed decoration. It measures approx. 11” long, and the bowl measures approx. 3 ½” in diameter. It is marked on the obverse of the handle with the maker’s mark of J.E. Caldwell & Co., and the words Sterling, Pat Ap’d for. This beautiful ladle would make a wonderful compliment to any serving piece—antique or new. Price: $450.00 Stock #BC658 |
