AMERICAN SILVER CENTERPIECE BOWL ART NOUVEAU CIRCA 1900

This is a beautiful and unusual sterling silver centerpiece bowl in the Art Nouveau style. This large shaped-oval bowl stand on four pad feet formed as lily pads with iris-formed joints that are naturalistically rendered in a sculptural style. The bowl has an exceptionally deep interior with intricately pierced designs of scrolls and flowers decorating the sides. The undulating rim is trimmed with a wide, sculptural border of irises that move dynamically with the folds of the rim. This unusual decoration is especially charming and exquisitely embodies the sensuousness and curvilinear lines of the Art Nouveau style. This bowl in excellent condition and its decoration shows exceptional quality. It measures approx. 6 1/8” high and approx. 14 1/2” long, and weighs approx. 44 troy ounces. It is marked under the base with the maker’s mark of Roger Williams Silver Co., the word Sterling, pattern number 395X, and the retailer’s mark of C.D. Peacock. This gorgeous antique bowl would make a particularly lovely wedding or anniversary gift. It would make a beautiful addition to any décor as either a centerpiece bowl or a decorative accessory.
