| This is a beautiful sterling silver picture frame by the well-known San Francisco silversmiths at Shreve & Co. Executed in the highly collectible Arts & Crafts design, this rectangular frame has a hammered border trimmed with a cut-out and applied band of strapwork around the rim. This is a wonderfully evocative design that is minimal and modern, yet historically rooted. The hammered surface produces a rich, shimmering effect. The back of the frame and hinged stand are both covered in deep blue velvet. It is in excellent condition and is very beautifully made. The frame measures approx. 9 1/2" wide and approx. 12 1/4" high. The interior opening measures approx. 8" wide x 10 1/4" high. It is marked on the bottom with Shreve’s maker’s mark and the words Sterling and San Francisco. This wonderful Arts and Crafts design of this picture frame is sought-after by collectors and can be found in several museum collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
