| This is a beautiful sterling silver and mixed metal tray by premier American silversmiths, the Gorham Manufacturing Company in the popular Japanese style of the late 19th century. This rectangular tray is made from copper and has deep, lobed sides. The field of the tray has been ornamented with applied mixed metal decoration including a large standing crane of gold, on a landscape of granulated silver and copper, with wonderful silver foliage. Two additional birds in silver are shown in flight, creating an asymmetrical design inspired by Japanese woodblock prints. Many of the designs on these pieces came directly from Japanese sources found in the Gorham Company library. The tray is marked under the base with the identifying marks of the Gorham Manufacturing Co., and pattern number B65 M. It measures approx. 7 3/4" long and 6” wide, and is in excellent condition with crisp decoration. This beautiful tray is a fantastic example of Gorham’s eclectic style and a true collectible.
