| This is an exquisite pair of sterling silver candlesticks executed in the Rococo Revival style by Howard & Company of New York. Each candlestick has a wide shaped, circular base of curling leaves and scrolls that supports a baluster-shaped stem that grows into a leaf-formed socket. The removable circular wax pans are rendered as flower petals to imaginatively form budding flowers. These candlesticks have been modeled in a highly sculptural and decorative way that captures the exuberance of the Rococo Revival. These candlesticks are in excellent condition and have a soft, silver finish. Each candlestick measures approx. 10 1/2” high, with bases approx. 6 1/2” in diameter. Each piece is marked under the base with the maker’s mark of Howard & Co., the words Sterling and New York, and one is marked with the date 1893 and the other is marked with the date 1894. Each wax-pan is also marked Sterling with a number. Both are engraved under the base with the date January 17, 1895. This beautiful pair of candlesticks is both sumptuous and dramatic!
