| This sterling silver compote by silversmiths Mappin & Webb of Sheffield has uncommonly pretty decoration. The dish of the compote has a plain field that contrasts nicely with the wide border of pierced floral motifs. The delicately pierced scrolls and leaves have been accented with engraved shading, which adds texture to this piece. The edge of the dish has been realistically molded into the shape of curling vines and grapes. The dish is supported on a low, circular footring. This compote is in very good condition and is without a monogram. It measures approx. 2” high, approx. 8 1/4” in diameter, and weighs 16 troy ounces. It is fully hallmarked below the border on the dish including the maker’s mark of Mappin & Webb. This lovely compote in the Victorian style would be charming for everyday use.
