| Here is a lovely sterling silver mug by Richard Ball & George McCaire of London. In the very popular Rococo Revival style, the body of this very pretty mug is beautifully decorated with chased and repoussé motifs of asymmetrical leaves and bouquets of flowers, and with a central scroll and shell cartouche. The cartouche bears the inscription “C.G. Buchanan to his Nephew 1887.” It stands on a very unique shaped, hexagonal base that is accented with engraved leaf designs at each corner. The pear-shaped body is complimented with a very beautiful, sculptural leaf and scroll handle. This mug is in good condition with expertly executed decoration and its soft original finish, although it has a small crack in the interior near the handle and some loss to the gold-wash interior. It measures approx. 4” high, and has an opening of approx. 2 1/2” in diameter. Below the rim it is fully hallmarked and has the maker’s mark of Ball & McCaire. This charming mug would make an excellent family heirloom. Price: $375.00 Stock #BA803 |
