| This is a beautiful sterling silver, pierced basket of exceptional quality by Marcus & Company of New York. The deep, oval body stands on four beautifully curved scroll feet. The sides of the basket have been pierced with the utmost skill in a delicate lacey pattern of scrolls and trelliswork, enclosed by a band that articulates the wide pierced rim of similar decoration that is bordered by a cast silver band of flowers and scrolls that supports the two side handles. The cast handles are richly decorated with openwork scrolls surrounding a blank shield. This basket is in excellent condition with extremely fine pierced and cast elements. It measures approx. 4 1/4” high, and 17” long over the handles, and weighs approx. 32 ounces. It is marked under the base with the mark of Marcus & Co., the words Sterling and New York, and pattern number 1132X.
