GORHAM ISIS STERLING GILT SILVER FISH SET CIRCA 1871

In the Egyptian Revival taste, this exquisite fish set comprises a fork and knife in the Isis pattern by renowned American silversmiths, the Gorham Manufacturing Company. These two pieces exemplify the beauty and eclecticism of the Aesthetic Movement. Each piece features a plain sterling silver handle with a rectangular grip topped by a geometric finial in the early modern style. The handles bifurcate into curling terminals that attach to the reverse of serving bowl and blade. Both the fork bowl and knife blade retain their lovely gilt finishes and each attach to the handle with a wonderful cast entwined snake centered on a fan-shaped design. The fork bowl has been intricately pierced with an elegant, stylized lotus design, and accented with an engraved and bright cut border. The knife blade features a complimentary stylized lotus and frond motif, as well as a geometric border, using engraving and bright cutting techniques. Each piece is in excellent condition. Each is stamped on the reverse with the maker’s mark of the Gorham Manufacturing Co., and the word Sterling. The fork measures approx. 10 1/4" long, and the knife measures approx. 12 3/4” long. This fish set offers a unique and elegant pairing of the popular styles of the late 19th century at the height of experimentation and exoticism in American silver.   Price: $4,500.00 pair   Stock #BB150
