| Here is a charming and unusual table bell in sterling silver and mixed metal by premier American silversmiths, the Gorham Manufacturing Company. Representing the exoticism of the Japanese taste in the 19th century, this lovely bell features a deeply hammered surface that truly sparkles. A dragonfly, a crane, and bamboo and reed motifs have been applied in mixed metal to the bell’s body, and are accented with granulated mixed metal balls forming a realistically modeled landscape. The handle is a plain, tapering cylinder with a banded, cone-like finial executed in the early modern taste. The reverse of the bell and has been stamped with the maker’s mark of the Gorham Manufacturing Co., the pattern number 385 N, and the word “Sterling,” and the rim is stamped with the words “& Other Metals.” The bell measures approx. 4" high. It is in excellent condition, and produces a lovely, clear tone. This rare form is a wonderful example of mixed metal silver, and is representative of the exoticism and elegance of the Aesthetic Movement. Price: $3,250.00 Stock #AX949 |
