GREEN GLASS VASE SILVER OVERLAY 1900

This is a lovely emerald green glass vase, lavishly embellished with heavy guage fine quality sterling silver and sterling silver overlay. The decoration consists of curving panels of plain, unadorned sterling silver alternating with groups of pretty silver overlay flowers. The silver overlay is nicely-detailed with excellent definition on the petals and the leaves and all the silver has been very thickly applied. The vase's shape is extremely pleasing to the eye and suggestive of a classical urn, nipped in slightly below the upper rim and then tapering downwards and resting upon a small circular base. The base and the upper rim are all plain silver and as an additional design element the silver encircling the neck has been applied in a way which reveals a row of diamond-shapes showing the green glass below. It is unusual and extremely effective. The edge of the base is marked 900/Fine together with the emblem of the Alvin Corp. of Providence, R.I., a company renowned for the superb quality of its silver overlay. It is in excellent condition throughout and has not been monogrammed. The vase stands 12" and is approx. 4" in diameter at the base, it would make a stunning addition to any room.   Price: $3,500.00   Stock #AX733
