| This is a truly magnificent sterling silver bowl, covered all over with the marks of hand-hammering and artistically and beautifully decorated with a creative asymmetrical design featuring scenes from nature depicted in a variety of mixed metals.
The bowl rests upon 4 low, slightly curving raised sterling silver feet and is encircled by applied mixed metal butterflies, a bird in flight and an impeccably-detailed chicken hungrily feasting on seed while standing on a beautifully made granulated base. The true highlight of the bowl, however, is an exceptionally realistic 3-dimensional group of fruit on a vine surrounded by exquisitely-detailed sterling silver leaves.
This grouping has been crafted with such skill that it seems to be virtually growing from the side of the bowl.
The interior of the bowl has been finished with a light gold wash.
The base has been stamped with the identifying marks of the Gorham Corp, the words Sterling & Other Metals, a pattern number and the date letter N for the year 1881.
It has been monogrammed on the base with the initials LC.
It measures 8 1/4" in diameter and the fruit decoration extends a further 2".
The height is approx. 3 3/4".
This is a wonderful museum-quality item and a 'must-have' for all collectors of the very finest quality silver. Price: $18,500.00 Stock #AY895 |
